The Adoption and Foster Family Coalition of New York recently announced an office opening in Rockland County. This new office aims to support a program called The Adoption and Guardianship Assistance Program for Everyone, which offers resources and guidance for adoptive families.

The office will assist all members of families through programs such as parent training, support groups for parents and for children, free therapeutic counseling, and more. Adoption is both a very exciting time and can also be a very stressful time, as the adaption period can take some time for parents and adopted children alike. The state wants to offer services to children after they are welcomed into a new family to ensure that the transition into a new life is made a little easier for them.

Many families who adopt a child have never done so before and need assistance navigating through the transition process as well. Welcoming a child into your home to be part of your family is a wonderful thing, but even so, some parents need assistance in offering the child the support they need as well as creating a bond with the child. Though many adoptive parents have a support system in friends and family, they will be able to get professional insight into the challenges they will face that others in their support system can’t relate to.

If you have questions about the adoption process, contact an experienced family law attorney who can provide you with the guidance you need during this time.
